“The Archive what?”
That is a question often asked when I mention what I do at the club, apart from playing golf.
Our obscurely named group was formed just after the club’s 50th Anniversary celebrations commenced in 2017. We have the responsibility of capturing the rich history of Melville Glades from its early beginning when foundation members literally dug up the ground to create a golf course. Many golf and other sporting clubs have historical groups like ours and we have met with several of them. Our history is continually evolving and has some fascinating aspects about it. We have conveyed a few of those in previous club Newsletters via our “From the Archives” articles. More importantly, and as the saying goes, “History is a great teacher.”
