Golfwa Women’s 4BBB Challenge Playoff 2023 – Wanneroo Golf Club:  Sincere thanks and congrats to Helen Constable and Shirley van der Brugghen for representing MGGC at this year’s playoff.  This was a Nett comp and with handicaps of 11 and 10 respectively, they posted an outstanding score of 43 Stableford points, coming in equal 4th (Grass Green div).  The winning stableford score was 46, however it is worth mentioning that the 4 teams finishing above our dynamic duo, had handicaps in the high 20s to 40s, which makes Helen and Shirley’s 43 points even more impressive. You must have combined for a very classy round, and we are proud of your “Champagne Golf”.

4BBB Matchplay – 3 rounds are now complete and despite the relatively small field, everyone has enjoyed the challenge of this format and all games played in good spirits. Congrats to the 4 teams who made the Semi Finals – Eunice Frost/Robyn Jones and Di Jowett/Bev Hayes.  And big congrats to the semi-final winners – Louise Watson/Robyn Murphy and Leanne McVey/Jenny Marsh who will now play off in the final on Sept 10th .  May you thoroughly enjoy the final Matchplay round.  Winners to be presented with their prize at the upcoming Ladies Annual Meeting (LAM)

Our annual Breast Cancer Stableford competition played on Thursday Sept 21st was a huge success for such a low key event.  We enjoyed a fun day, dressed in pink and raised $566.90.  Congratulation to all who participated. Special thanks to Gwen Homewood for her most generous contribution and to Kum Sook for enticing her golfing buddies from Gosnells along for the day. Special thanks also to Jan O’Meara for making and donating the pink ribbons. The funds have been forwarded to Breast Cancer Trials (formerly Breast Cancer Institute of Australia) and we have received a huge thankyou and an acknowledgement of our 17th year supporting Breast Cancer Trials. Great work ladies!

DLM Trophy  – Sept 28th & Oska Pulse Presentation.   Currently nursing a sore back, our much loved and appreciated SQ conducted post-game presentations for both 9 and 18 hole competitions, generously donating “Winner”, and “Participation” awards.  The 9 Hole Award was won by Jean Smith who played her usual controlled game to finish up with 21 points.  And Sue Middleton posted a classy 42 points to take out the 18 hole Trophy.  Congrats to you both. And thanks for your generosity Sue, in addition to the mountains of work you do for our club, and we thoroughly enjoyed having you back on the mic for a day.

And huge thanks to our Oska Pulse donor and presenter, Shirley Hawker.  We so appreciate this innovative pain relieving prize and Shirley’s update on its current trials and successful applications.  Our talented, surprised but very happy 2023 Oska Pulse Champion was        Shim Kingston.  Shim has had a very steady year with many 36 stableford point games and thoroughly deserved her win.  Coming in equal second and winning the “not so impressive” tube of Voltaren gel was Maree Hills and Me.

Our 4th and final Silver Anniversary Cup round was played yesterday and VC Anne Ward is currently crunching the numbers to determine our 2023. This is another best 3 of 4 Stableford rounds with the winner to be announced and rewarded at our November LAM.

Other awards to be presented at the LAM include – Most Improved player (based on handicap reduction), Winter Eclectic Grade awards and Jubilee Foursomes.

Our 10th and final Stroke Round will be played next Thursday 12th and then VC Anne Ward will be working those excel spread sheets to determine the 2023 Putting and Consistency Grade winners, also to be announced and presented at the LAM.

For those ladies who have generously offered to donate a 2023 prize, I will be in touch soon to confirm your award recipient so you can decide on the Prize or voucher you would like to present.  Thanks to those of you who have already organized and submitted your prizes.

Charity Day – Thurs Oct 19TH – One club Prostate Cancer Charity.  Flyers have been out for a while and entry numbers are growing, 70 + at this stage and room for more.  This is an 18 hole Canadian Foursomes format with an 8.30 shotgun start, played in groups of 6.  Entry forms are in the ladies locker room and at reception. This is the only competition for the morning (no 9 hole comp) but 9 hole members eligible to enter if feeling up to the 18 hole challenge. There is an option to pay $25 and just enjoy lunch. There will be the usual social play options in the afternoon.

And Finally – Our 12 Hole Novelty Day on Nov 2nd after Course Renovation week.  Will provide further details when it gets closer but are looking at a 4 Ball Ambrose competition for both 9 and 18 hole lady Member – would love to see you all mix up your groups.  And…….. thinking about teeing off the men’s Blue tees as the “Novelty” component of the day.  Stay tuned! This one is a work in progress and all the details to be confirmed in due course. However please note – We will need to be mindful of our new Liquor Licence rules – cannot bring our own alcohol onto the course, so we will need to drink non-alcoholic beverages until post-game when we can share a “Champagne Cheers” in the clubhouse.

And before I sign off, just want to mention the fun Mixed Foursomes competition that was played last Sunday Oct 1st.  It has the nickname “Divorcesome Foursomes” as many married couples bravely enter this competition hoping to survive the golf and still be talking at the end of the day. It is a Stroke competition so you can imagine the stress!  Special mention to a mother/son combo, Sue and Jordan Middleton and sister/bro pairing, Nat McRobb and her brother Paul Dwyer.  The two smiling couples who shone on the day and were Nett Winners Deb and Harry Harris with a very impressive Nett 66 and Di and Harvey Jowett posting a spectacular 68 Nett.  Congratulations also go to Leanne McVey and Sam Hayes who combined to shoot 73 Gross winning the Gold letter event.

Cheers for now and happy golfing on those challenging temporary greens.
