Men’s Division 2 – Paul Oliver
Gosnells Golf Club  –  MGGC vs Mandurah CC

Round 3 was played at a very soft Gosnells GC (with no clean and place), but in pretty good conditions.

John Murphy got another win early on (4&3) followed by Paul Oliver (2up) and Hong Bin Wong Wong winning the last 3 holes in a row to win on the 18th (1up).

Like last week we were left at 3 all, with Ethan Lim, Tavis Whitcher and Andy Gregory all going down in hard fought matches.

Unfortunately Adam Hoare in his first game for the club went agonisingly close – just getting pipped 1 down on the final hole, which meant we lost 3-4.

Very close to getting it done but just didn’t quite go our way.

Thanks to club legend Andy Clark who has come down the last 2 weeks to support the boys!

Next week we are off to the awesome WAGC to take on a very stacked Vines team (wish us luck ha ha!)

Men’s Division 6 South Central – James Mcauliffe
Royal Perth Golf Club – MGGC vs Gosnells GC

Sunday 23rd June we headed to Royal Perth Golf Club to take on Gosnells Golf Club.

We had 2 new players in the 6 this week in Gordon Golokin and Curt Nicole. Gordon fought all day narrowly going down 3&2. Curt had an unbelievable match, was down most of the day but showed tremendous fight. 2 down with 3 or 4 holes left to play he got to the 18th tee box square and did what was needed on the 18th to win 1 up. Great work Curt.

Toby Struthers and Jessy Lee played in the same group again this week with both unfortunately going down but not without a fight.

This just leaves 2 players, Logan King and Nigel Williams. Logan was in a class of his own again with a dominant 4&3 win. This is 2 wins in a row to Logan with a 5&4 last week also.

Now where do I start with Nigel… on the 18th tee box all square and Gosnells leading 3 wins to 2. Par 5. Opposition hits the fairway, 30m past Nigel (like most people do). Nigel into the fairway bunker hits a sensible shot out which leaves him 158m to a tucked back pin. Opposition goes for the green with a fairway metal and leaves himself an uncomfortable Brysonesque length bunker shot. Nigel proceeded to hit that 158m shot to about 8 foot with an uphill putt for birdie. The 30m bunker shot was left short 8m for birdie and he hit a great lag putt to gimmie range and in for par. Knowing full well the team needed this win to halve the day, Nigel duly stepped up and rattled home the birdie putt. We halve the day 3-3, a great result for the team again with lots of new faces every week.

I think this Sunday was a great show of the commitment the boys have for this season. When that last putt went in the 5 players from Melville plus the 5 other squad members were all there watching and cheering on from greenside. Please feel free to ask a squad member to see the final putt and celebration as it was filmed and will only be shared now that it dropped in the hole, cheers Brad.

This leaves Melville Glades second on the table with 1 win and 2 halves with 4 rounds to go. Next Sunday 30th June we will be at Hartfield to take on Royal Perth Golf Club.
