As we come to the end of our “Shotgun” starts for the season it is disturbing to hear that there are some players who are breaching the Rules of Golf by playing practice shots on holes as they walk out to their allotted starting Tee positions.

Rule 5.2b clearly states that a player must not practice on the course prior to a competition round except in designated practice areas. Penalty for breaching the rule is 2 strokes for the first occurrence and disqualification if repeated.

Only in Match Play conditions is a player allowed to practice on the course or test conditions prior to their round. This is covered under Rule 5.2a.
