Men’s Division 2
Round 4 – Melville Glades Golf Club vs Vines Country Club at WAGC Golf Club
Lennon Thurtell
Round 4 was always going to be a tough match against a Vines team who have stacked their team with some good players, including 3 State squad members.
After much debate we decided to mix the order up a little to try and snag a few games off them. We ended up going down 5-2 with Ben Kivelhan (2&1) and Lennon Thurtell (1up) getting the wins.
Well done to Steven Russell, and Andy Gregory who stepped up to the no. 1 & 2 spots, and although both lost, certainly weren’t disgraced.
Vines will definitely make finals this year, so it was a great effort from the lads!
Round 5 – Melville Glades Golf Club vs WAGC at Hartfield Golf Club
Paul Oliver
Round 5 was played at a soaked (puddles in the bunkers etc!) Hartfield after torrential rain overnight and in the morning, however as we teed off, the heavens parted and the conditions were actually pretty good for the afternoon.
We got off to a decent start with Jordan Russell squaring his match (his opponent made a birdie on the last hole) followed by wins to Martin Wong (1up), who was 3 down with 5 to play to win on the last, Ethan Lim and Ben Kivelhan (both 2up) who were both 1 up going down the last and both won the 18th, and finally Paul Oliver (4&2).
Some close matches, but the boys prevailed this week with Melville winning 4.5 to 2.5 – an awesome result against a team who were in Div 1 last year.
This was a very important win as we look to avoid relegation, which it 95% has, and we now aim to finish in the top 4 with only 2 rounds to go.
This Sunday we are off down to Meadow Springs to take them on at their home course.
Men’s Division 6
Melville Glades vs Mosman Park at Melville Glades – By James Mcauliffe
Not the easiest of reports to write this week. With all the marbles on the line as a team we failed to get the job done on home turf. No excuses just plain and simple we were beaten on the day. We lost the day 2.5 to 3.5.
A win to Jessy Lee 4&3 was a great show of fight. Jessy had been under pressure coming into this game and was fired up from the get-go and got the job done. Well done Jessy.
Our other win on the day was Nick Pritchard. Nick was all square after 17 holes and won the 18th hole and finished 1 up.
Kavi Lasrado was our only other point getter. Kavi played well all day and held on for a halved match.
Other players this week were James McAuliffe (1 down) Jono Hailes (4&2) Dean Marsh (2&1).
This loss was a hard pill to swallow for the team. Going into this game we had felt we were in a good position to play in a final. This result has made that extremely hard now.
Last round this weekend, we take on WAGC at WAGC. (no picture this week as we were all too grumpy)
