The last stage of the greens replacement is well underway with the greens on holes 1-6 already having the top 300mm of soil removed and fresh sand added by Sports Turf Construction (STC).
Greens on holes 1, 5 & 6 have all been slightly reshaped to create more pin positions and green sizes increased as planned. These three greens have also been turfed, compacted and top-dressed in the first 9 days of the project.
Over the next week the course staff will reshape and turf greens on holes 2 & 4, leaving hole 3 and the large chipper to be done the following week.
The greens project takes away approximately 70% of the course staff’s time on the course, leaving time to only do the basic morning set up of changing holes, markers, raking bunkers and cutting greens. Fairways, tees and rough are getting cut every 7-10 days instead of weekly due to the time restraints.
The STC team is going to be offsite next week while the course staff catch up with turfing. This also allows the chipping green to be open for an extra week. They will be back at the Club on Monday the 7th of October to finish off the large chipping green. When the chipping green is out of play the pitching green will be opened for practice.
