Dear Members,

The recent resignation announcement by the Captain and Board Director creates a vacancy on the Board. As per the Clubs Constitution clause 3.17 this may be filled by the Board as a Casual Vacancy for the remainder of the elected term which would be through to the close of the 2026 AGM.

At the last AGM in March, the Members agreed to increase the pool of candidates for the Board by amending the eligibility period from four years, to two years membership. This was ratified by the Commission and became effective on 24 May 2024. This is the first casual vacancy to be filled under the new rule. All eligible Members are welcome to apply.

The Board is seeking Expressions of Interest from members to fill the role of Captain for the remainder of the elected term. To be eligible to be appointed to fill a casual vacancy a member must be an Ordinary, Ordinary Age Group, Ordinary 9-Hole or Life member of the Club, have been a member in these categories for at least two (2) consecutive years and be financial at the time of appointment.

The primary role of the Captain is as a Director on the Club’s Board of management. The Captain also chairs the Match committee. The committee’s responsibilities include the Juniors’ Development Program. Additionally, the Captain has a role on the Pennants Selection and Disciplinary Investigation committees.

The general responsibilities for Captain are in the Constitution (clause 3.35), however candidates should also review the relevant parts of the By-laws that describe the responsibilities of the related committees. A summary of Board responsibilities and eligibility criteria along with those for the Captain can be found here.

If you have any questions about the role or its responsibilities please contact the President, Mark Bonser or General Manager, Matt Espie.

Expressions of Interest are requested to be made in writing to the General Manager (gm@melvilleglades.com) by Friday 11 October. The Expression of Interest should address the criteria and may include a short summary of the candidate’s relevant skills and background that they feel would make them a good Board member.

The Board will assess the merits of the candidates relative to the criteria. Should the Board agree it is necessary, selected candidates may be interviewed to clarify matters in their Expressions of Interest. The President will advise the candidates of the outcome of the Board’s selection process.
