Progress at last!!!
We have received a draft Lease document from the City of Melville for a new 21-year lease which will take us to 31 July 2042.
On initial reading of the said document there does not appear to be anything extraordinary within it and fortunately most clauses are the same. There are no onerous changes apparent. The first market rent review is to be undertaken on 1 August 2031. The Board will review the draft lease at our upcoming meeting 31st May and subject to MGGC Board approval it will go to Council for their approval at the July meeting.
Last week we met with representatives from Rainbird and Living Turf regarding a new reticulation system for MGGC. We have had plans drawn up and have requested preliminary costings to enable us to assess various funding models. Once we have some “real” numbers we will be able to share them with members. A work in progress with some significant steps forward. Another member forum will be held to share and update all relevant data once it has been received.
Prior to the next forum we will be sending out a brief survey to members to assist us with prioritising capital expenditure. The Club’s “wish list” continues to grow and the dollars for our 1-3-7 year plan can only stretch so far so we want to know what the members think are the most important items. Your input is important so please take part in the survey.
The environmental compliance project is into its next phase. The self-bunded fuel tanks were purchased and operational 1Q 2021, now the wash down bay and oily water separator tanks are being installed.
Unfortunately, the Course guys are now having to wait until at least July for their upgraded equipment to arrive. The Toro lease expired in January; we signed a new lease with Toro but due to COVID-19 the new equipment has not yet arrived. As a result of Toro not being able to provide the agreed equipment until July, we have negotiated a reduction in our current lease payments to compensate us for having to continue to use the ‘expired lease’ equipment.
The Club’s finances remain on track with April recording another solid result despite the lost revenue opportunities due to another COVID snap lockdown.
You may have noticed our Course Marshal program is gradually gaining momentum. With less daylight hours available and often full fields, the pace of play is critical so that all players can finish their round in reasonable light. Thank you to the members who have made themselves available to assist as volunteer marshals.
The Board continues to discuss the primary functional requirements of the Board in its’ attempt to develop a new governance structure that better reflects the Club’s needs and meet the myriad of legislative changes since the current Board structure was implemented.
Good luck to the Men’s Division 3 Pennant team who are playing in the final at Joondalup on Sunday. I feel a win coming on!
