Lady Captains Information Blog April 14th.
Stroke P & C Round 3 – golfwa Silver Spoon 2.
Almost 70 ladies competed in our 3rd P & C Stroke round, with everyone coming in before the rain started. Apart from some swirly winds, it was a very pleasant day out. And we had some impressive scores – congrats everyone. But the standout and –
Winner of the prestigious Silver Spoon for Best overall Nett was Nina King with a Nett 70. Sincere thanks to our much loved Dana Shave for donating this Silver Spoon.
Our Rod Webb Grade winners who will receive $40 in their Wallet accounts were:
A Grade – Shirley van der Brugghen (Nett 72)
B Grade – Beverly Doherty (Nett 71 –In good form notching up her second win!)
C Grade – Leigh Habershon (Nett 71 – announcing that pregame practice really works)
And our sensational 9 hole performer winning a $20 Wallet deposit was –
Tania Easton who shot a Nett 31 to go with her NTP on the 17th and an impressive longest C Grade Drive down the 16th. Nice day out Tania!
Alison Hoy dropped her ball NTP on Hole 5 and Vicky Taylor NTP on Hole 14.
And on the 9th, we found the NTP marker on the green but no name on the slip! So the $5 prize goes unclaimed – despite nearly every lady at Presentations suggesting that it might have been them! So, a timely reminder to put your name on the slip as you leave the Green.
Congrats go to Kerrin Thomas for a ripper Longest A grade Drive down the 11th fairway and to Cheryl Haines who showcased her talent with a super long Drive down the 13th.
And a special Bravery “golf ball” award went to new member Michelle Spalding, playing in her first Thursday Ladies competition on a “Stroke Day”.
And finally, the consistent and talented Helen Constable shot the Best Gross Score – 81.
TEE BOXES –Matt Sturmer and his crew are doing their best to call us up to the Tee Box. There have been a few rumblings about noise around the Tee box when players are teeing off. So just a timely reminder to keep watch and lower the volume when a player is preparing to swing. It’s always pleasant to have that pre-game welcome chat with your playing group but maybe, when on “Stand by”, hang back a tad and only move up to the tee area once the group in front are heading down the fairway. Thanks everyone.
PACE OF PLAY – We are enjoying very pleasant playing conditions and there is a calmness about the course. Golf was meant to be played at a relaxed pace, with time for distance measuring, a practice swing, catching your breath after walking up a slope and then playing that perfect shot (or maybe not!) Up to 4 ½ hours is the norm. Keeping up with the group in front is the objective, assuming they are a group of 4 and walking the course. Allowances need to be made for groups with less players or riding in electric carts. And if we do experience the occasional hold up, I cannot think of a more pleasant environment to rest up in. We are so fortunate.
And talking about pace of play – our upcoming event – JUBILEE FOURSOMES whilst played in groups of 4, only play 2 balls! This might involve some extra “team discussion” time, but the pace of play will be faster than normal. Our 9 hole players, who are not entered in the Jubilee comp, will be playing a normal Stableford competition. To try and alleviate any congestion, we have arranged for the 9 hole groups to tee off a few slots earlier, so they will be underway before the first Jubilees start their second 9. So please be mindful of this situation and hopefully we can all enjoy our round at a reasonable pace.
REGIONAL SENIORS May 25th & 26th. – Golfwa have advised of some changes for registration and payment for this event – Being played at Dunsborough and Districts Country Club. All the details are available on the golfwa website. So, if we do have a group of interested ladies, you will need to appoint a group coordinator who will then need to liaise with our Admin to complete the necessary on-line Club registration and Entry fees. Entries close on May 11th and there are limited Electric Carts available.
PRESENTATION RULES DISCUSSIONS
16 – Relief from Abnormal Course Conditions – Discussed post-game on April 6th, we specifically referenced Sprinkler heads around the Greens. It was a very helpful session, including how to use the MiScore Local Rules reference. Thanks Julie Davies for suggesting we take a look at this Rule.
8 – Course Played as it is Found – discussed on Thursday April 13th – when you can or can not repair Pug marks in your line of play.
We are appreciating the input and good suggestions from all the ladies at presentations.
