Winter has arrived and despite the rain bucketing down we have managed to play all our major fixtured Thursday eventsFingers crossed that this trend continues.

Golfwa Women’s 4BBB Golf Challenge – We had 60 ladies (9 and 18 hole) pair up for our qualifying 4BBB competition on June 15th and huge congratulations go to our winners:

Helen Constable & Shirley van der Brugghen with an outstanding score of 44 points. With handicaps of 11 and 8 respectively, they played some classy “champagne golf” to take the title.  We hope their fabulous form continues as they proudly represent MGGC in the golfwa State Final to be played on September 18th.  Wishing you the best of golfing luck.

Also on 44 points, coming in 2nd on a count back, were Raelene Dunsire and Maree Hills.  I had the pleasure of playing with this pair and their quality golf shots were a joy to watch.

Our 9 hole crew also joined in the 4BBB fun and the winners with a classy 23 points were

Gabby Wawn and Tania Easton

Jenny Watters and Pauline Kneebone -came in 2nd, posting a fabulous 22 points.

And despite the dreary weather forecast, we manage to play our “Rod Webb sponsored Par Competition” on Thursday June 22nd, in near perfect conditions. We had almost 70 ladies compete for the title of 2023 best Par 9 and 18 hole players. Sincere thanks to Rod who attended to present the winning players with their vouchers.  And the 18 Hole skilful Par players were:

1st place – Robyn Millett (+3) – $50 voucher

 2nd place – Louise Watson (+2) – $45 voucher

3rd place – Andrea Hird (+2) – $40 voucher.

And our successful 9 hole winners were:

1st place – Jean Smith – all square – $30 voucher

2nd place – Madeline Radestock – all square – $20 voucher

And sincere thanks to all the ladies who stayed back for Presentations to acknowledge and thank Rod for his support/sponsorship and to congratulate the winners.  It turned out to be one of those fun days of celebration and laughter, thanks to those playing groups who shared their “humorous happenings” out on the course that day.  They were hilarious and some of the best we have heard so far.

SENIOR PENNANTS – Thanks to all the ladies who have signed up for season 2023 and provided their available dates.  At this stage we have a good mix of new and experienced players and will be able to field a competitive team of 8 players each week.  We will sort teams/partners on a game by game basis (as we sort through player availability).  First game is scheduled for July 10th, so we will email players next week with all the relevant information.  Thanks again ladies. We are looking forward to a fun season, in the sunny southwest!

MIXED CHARITY DAYTuesday June 27th.  Adele and her crew have done a mountain of work getting prepared for this event and with 100+ players registered it should be fun and successful “one club” fundraiser.  And the weather is looking good!

For those ladies playing the morning Par competition, you just pay your comp fee, and the pro shop will distribute prizes in the usual manner.   Thanks for accommodating the earlier tee times.

So that’s June pretty much done and dusted.  Our next major event, Individual Match Play Championship, commences August 1st and in the meantime, it is a relatively relaxed July with a couple of Stroke rounds tossed in to keep us focused and entertained!

Cheers everyone and stay healthy.
